Question:
How did you integrate technologies – software, hardware and online – in this project? Answer: I did not use much hardware to put my project together. The main piece of hardware that I used was my computer. I used it to put the magazine together and to research information and examples of layouts. The other piece of hardware that I used was my phone. I used my phone to take and edit the pictures in my magazine. The software that I used on my computer was Photopea and Canva. I used Canva much more than I used Photopea. I started off with Photopea, but the way that the cover of my magazine came out seemed a bit basic. I switched to Canva when making the first table of contents and it was much more creative than it was when I used Photopea. For the rest of the project, I used Photopea to help me with the layout and I used Canva to make it pretty and consistent. The application that I used on my phone to edit my photos was the photo gallery app on my phone. After editing my photos, I transferred them to my computer and uploaded them to Canva. Question:
How did your production skills develop throughout this project? Answer: My production skills have increased a lot throughout this project. I learned how much work goes into creating a magazine. Everything from the location of one word to the pictures is really important. So much goes into putting a magazine together. Many things, like the binding of the magazine, need to be taken into consideration so that the magazine flows together and looks perfect. I learned to leave space on the edges of the page to prevent distortion when the magazine is put together. The layout is another important thing. I learned how to make an eye-appealing and non-crowded magazine page. It’s also really important to make sure that there are no spelling errors and that you have everything on the page. I also learned how to use different software to create a magazine. The main software that I used was Canva. I used Canva to make a design and keep a consistent theme. I used Photopea as well and it helped me with the layout. I learned how to fill a page with words and not make it too crowded. I still have difficulty with photo placement. Question:
How does your product engage with audiences and how would it be distributed as a real media text? Answer: My project engages with audiences by helping people find fun while stuck at home. During the beginning of this project, people were still stuck at home because of the covid-19 pandemic. Many people we’re trying to find something to do and some artists may have lost some inspiration due to having too much time on their hands. My magazine is meant to help give people inspiration and something to do since a lot of them are bored at home. Another way that my product engages with audiences is by helping people looking for a career path to follow. My magazine is all about the easy and cheap way to do photography. It’s good for people who want to test out photography to see if they would enjoy it as a career. I would distribute it physically and digitally. For distributing it physically, I would make copies and start off small by selling it at local stores. Distributing it physically can help spread my product to an audience that may not use technology. For digitally I would upload the digital copies to a website or blog. Distributing the article online helps me spread my product to an audience that uses technology, and also makes it easier to spread. Question:
How does your product use or challenge conventions and how does it represent social groups or issues? Answer: Certain parts of my product use conventions and other parts challenge conventions. My cover uses conventions more than it challenges them. My cover has the same layout as every other magazine cover. It has the masthead at the top and the typography has certain words bolded. The photo is pretty basic as well. My table of contents also doesn’t really challenge conventions. It lists the articles in a striped pattern. My double-page spread does challenge conventions. The layout is different than most articles. Because my article is instructing instead of explaining, the layout had to be different than a “top 10 tips” article. I also used one big picture put together to show the differences in the filters instead of using the same picture over and over, which would have made the article crowded. My product represents the social issue of everyone being confined to their homes. It helps people who are bored and need something to keep them busy. It also represents the social issue that many people don’t know what they want to be when they grow up. My magazine can help people try photography in a way to help them decide if they want to make it a career, a hobby, or have nothing to do with it. It also does it in a way that doesn’t spend a lot of money. |
